Quality Assurance Manager


Department Aircraft Maintenance
Reports to Director of Maintenance
Supervisory Responsibilities None
Location Ottawa office/hangar and field based

Main Function

The Quality Assurance Manager, under the overall supervision of the Director of Maintenance, will ensure that all work performed by the SGL Aircraft Maintenance department and supporting vendors is performed and recorded in accordance with the applicable standards of airworthiness, SGL company policies, procedures and meets the applicable regulatory requirements of the governing body for which the aircraft is being maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the Aircraft Maintenance department is maintaining aircraft as directed within the scope of licence, capability, and authority granted in accordance with the MCM, MPM and Transport Canada regulations (CARs);
  • Ensure all work is done in accordance with applicable standards of airworthiness;;
  • Ensure all work done is recorded on the appropriate forms, such as work cards, inspection sheets, and work packages in order to monitor work completed and provide ACA release, as required;
  • Ensure all parts and materials for use on aircraft carry proper certification and that those used remain traceable to that certification;
  • Ensure the timely completion of company, customer, and regulatory audits, as required through the use of internal and external auditors;
  • Ensure all audits and checklists are current and relevant;
  • Report any findings with regard to compliance, non-conformance, deficiencies, and equipment malfunctions to the Director of Maintenance and the Accountable Executive as required;
  • Available to travel and assist with maintenance and or audit of field operations;
  • Understand, comply with, and promote all company safety precautions and policies, including reporting hazards and incidents encountered during daily operations;>
  • Attend and complete training courses and/or company examinations, as required;
  • Maintain a high level of technical and operational knowledge through direct engagement with colleagues, supervisors, and personal development;
  • Maintain project schedules and goals; and
  • Perform and complete other duties as assigned.

Academic/Educational Requirements

  • Postsecondary education in aircraft maintenance;
  • Successful completion of an approved type “M” rating Aircraft Maintenance Engineer training program at an approved training organization; and,
  • Previous training in auditing, corrective action plans and gap analysis would be considered an asset.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer licence type “M1”;
  • Valid AME licence and an aircraft certification authority (ACA) on at least one type of aircraft operated by SGL would be an asset;
  • Understanding of Canadian Aviation Regulations;
  • Working knowledge of Q5 SMS system;
  • Past experience with AMS aircraft maintenance software;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office computer programs;
  • Ability to act as Aircraft Certification Authority;
  • Ability to obtain Transport Canada restricted area pass;
  • Valid driver’s licence;
  • Valid passport or the ability to obtain a valid passport;
  • Willingness to travel globally on short notice;
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to communicate in multiple languages is an asset;
  • Available to work after-hours, as required; and,
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Performance Expectations

  • Initial six month probationary period is required for this position; and
  • Performance will be reviewed annually.

Working Conditions

  • Office setting with occasional need to access the hangar floor, workshops, stores; and
  • Occasional travel to the field environment.
