Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Manager will use their sound knowledge of HR best practices in order to organize and oversee the work of the HR department and fulfill the needs of employees, managers, and human resources projects. They will direct the work of the HR department in accordance with federal employment legislation and the HRPM.

Responsibilities of the Position

  • Advise and assist management and staff on interpretation and administration of human resources policies, programs, and relevant legislation;
  • Ensure company practices, policies, and programs comply with relevant employment legislation including the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Canada Labour Code;
  • Collaborate with internal Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) department to ensure organizational health and safety goals are being established and met;
  • Act as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee and Employment Equity Committee;
  • Oversee the full cycle recruitment and termination process for all positions including specialized positions and the Foreign Worker Program;
  • Facilitate on-boarding and orientation program;
  • Create and maintain company policies and procedures with the most up-to-date information and standards as needed;
  • Promote, organize, and track employee training and development including programs developed and delivered internally as well as, sourcing and vetting external service providers;
  • Support employees to address concerns and facilitate discussions, as required;
  • Coordinate WSIB claims with regard to workplace incidents ensuring adherence to return to work policies and facilitating return to work plans;
  • Implement any changes required to meet company goals through HR planning and strategy;
  • Research and provide management with recommendations on compensation including salary, benefits, and employee rewards;
  • Develop and monitor performance appraisal system and work with managers to effectively manage individual performance;
  • Provide status reports on projects to the Co-Presidents, as required;
  • Conduct performance appraisals of any direct reports;
  • Understand, comply with, and promote all company safety precautions and policies including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered during daily operations;
  • Attend and complete training courses and/or company examinations, as required;
  • Maintain technical and operational knowledge through direct engagement with colleagues and personal development;
  • Maintain good records and documentation of all employee files, policy drafts, training trackers, reports, etc.;
  • Maintain project schedules and goals; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure completion of projects within deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Postsecondary education in Human Resources, Business or related discipline;
  • Experience in a Human Resources role;
  • Proficient with LibreOffice including Calc and/or Microsoft Office including Excel, and software used to create and manipulate files in PDF format;
  • Sound understanding of Canada Labour Code and federal legislation relating to employment and human rights;
  • Demonstrated project management experience;
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise and build relationships with managers, other employees, and external clients;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, acting with diplomacy and discretion;
  • Strong sense of professional and business ethics;
  • Proven organization, leadership, and coaching skills; and,
  • Ability to problem solve, establish priorities, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
